Red jasper was already popular in ancient times and was often used as a gemstone and protective amulet. It is considered a stone that promotes inner strength and stimulates the flow of energy. Red jasper is a microcrystalline quartz variety (SiO₂) that gets its typical red color from iron oxides (hematite). It is opaque and forms in sedimentary and volcanic rocks. Jasper can show many patterns and colors – the red variety is the most well-known. Locations are found all over the world, especially in India, Brazil, Egypt, Russia, and Australia.

Pflege & Reinigung

Red jasper has a Mohs hardness of 6.5–7 and is robust and easy to care for. Clean under running water, recharge on hematite or in the sun. It is light-resistant and suitable for everyday use.

Verwechslungsgefahren & Qualität

Red jasper can be confused with carnelian. However, carnelian is translucent, while jasper is opaque. Red agate also shows similarities but has banding. In trade, jasper is reliably named, and fakes are rare due to the low price.
