Meaning

As its name suggests, this stone is considered very powerful. It is said to strengthen vitality and promote courage and strength. It is also said to enhance sensuality, desire, and sexuality, and to evoke feelings of romance, adventure, and melancholy. Creativity is also said to be stimulated, especially by adversity.

Thulite is said to increase fertility and have a positive effect on diseases of the reproductive organs. It is also said to promote regeneration, strengthen the nervous system, and, in particular, protect against fainting spells. Thulite is also said to stimulate curiosity and motivate the search for solutions to social problems.

Mineralogie & Entstehung

Thulite is a pink, manganese-rich variety of zoisite (Ca₂Al₃(SiO₄)(Si₂O₇)O(OH)). It crystallizes in the orthorhombic system and is mostly found in massive form. The pink to red coloration is due to manganese replacing aluminum in the crystal lattice. Locations include Norway (Lom), Austria, Australia, Namibia, and the USA (North Carolina).

Pflege & Reinigung

Thulite has a Mohs hardness of 6–6.5 and is moderately robust. Clean under lukewarm water. Sunlight is harmless – thulite does not fade. Recharge on rock crystal or in the sun.

Verwechslungsgefahren & Qualität

Thulite can be confused with rhodonite, rhodochrosite, or pink tourmaline. Rhodonite has black manganese oxide veins, rhodochrosite is softer and shows white bands. Pink tourmaline is more transparent. In trade, thulite is correctly named, and fakes are rare.
