Meaning

In healing stone science, rutilated quartz is valued as a mood enhancer and is said to have antidepressant properties. It is said to help dissolve hidden fears and relieve anxiety. Rutilated quartz is also considered a visionary stone, expanding the mind, promoting intellectual greatness and independence, and encouraging one to resist being constrained by conventions or constraints.

Alleged effect

Rutilated quartz is said to have a positive effect on respiratory diseases, especially chronic bronchitis. It is said to support cell regeneration and strengthen energy flow. It is also said to help promote upright posture.

Mineralogie & Entstehung

Rutilated quartz is a quartz (SiO₂) with needle-like inclusions of rutile (TiO₂). The rutile needles are golden yellow to reddish-brown and often form star-shaped or parallel patterns in the host crystal. It forms when rutile is trapped during quartz formation. Particularly beautiful specimens come from Brazil, Madagascar, India, and Pakistan.

Pflege & Reinigung

With a Mohs hardness of 7, rutilated quartz is robust. Clean under running water, recharge in the sun or on rock crystal. It is low-maintenance and suitable for everyday use. The rutile needles inside are protected and will not be damaged.

Verwechslungsgefahren & Qualität

Rutilated quartz is very distinctive due to its golden needles. Confusions can occur with tourmaline quartz (black needles instead of golden). It also resembles sagenite (quartz with thin mineral needles). Rarely faked in trade, as the natural patterns are difficult to imitate.
