Meaning

The association with the tiger symbolizes protection, strength, vigilance, and security, giving the stone a protective significance in many cultures. It is also said to boost self-confidence and make it easier for its wearer to pass exams and negotiate contracts. It is also said to help with finding and making clarity in decisions and facilitating financial management.

Alleged effect

Tiger's eye is said to have pain-relieving properties and can have a positive effect on joints, bones, and the back. In healing stone science, it is also said to be helpful in cases of shortness of breath and asthma. Because it is said to inhibit energy flow, it is believed to have a positive effect on hyperactivity and overstimulation. It is recommended not to wear tiger's eye continuously for longer than one week.

Mineralogie & Entstehung

Tiger's eye is formed by the pseudomorphism of quartz after crocidolite (blue asbestos). The crocidolite fibers are colored golden brown by iron oxide and replaced by quartz, while the parallel fiber structure is preserved – this creates the typical cat's eye effect (chatoyance).

Pflege & Reinigung

Easy to care for thanks to a Mohs hardness of 7. Clean under running water and recharge in the sun – tiger's eye can withstand sunlight and will not become lighter. Occasionally rub with a little oil to enhance the silky luster.

Verwechslungsgefahren & Qualität

Hawk's eye is the blue precursor (before the iron oxide transformation), cat's eye quartz shows similar effects but is gray-greenish. Artificially colored tiger's eye in red or blue is available on the market – natural tiger's eye is always golden brown to honey-colored.
