Meaning

Black tourmaline, one of the many varieties of tourmaline, is considered supportive in times of stress, strain, and resentment. It is said to help gain self-confidence, promote serenity, and thus even improve sleep. It is said to help release tension and can thus be a helpful companion in times of stress and strain.

Alleged effect

Schorl is considered one of the most powerful protective stones in crystal healing. It is said to ward off negative influences and neutralize radiation. It is also said to help with scar removal. It is said to protect its wearer from negative thoughts and enable them to maintain a neutral and calm stance in discussions.

Mineralogie & Entstehung

Black tourmaline (schorl) is an iron-rich borosilicate with a complex chemical composition. It forms in pegmatites and metamorphic rocks, developing typical prismatic crystals with a triangular cross-section and characteristic longitudinal striations.

Pflege & Reinigung

Discharge under running water and recharge on a rock crystal geode. Tourmaline is robust with a Mohs hardness of 7 and easy to care for. Avoid strong heat, as the stone can become pyroelectrically charged.

Verwechslungsgefahren & Qualität

It can be confused with black obsidian – obsidian is volcanic glass (Mohs hardness 5), while tourmaline often shows a slight brown tint under light. Black onyx also looks similar but has a waxy luster instead of tourmaline's glassy sheen with striations.
