Meaning

The stone belongs to the chalcedony group and is not a classic agate, as it lacks the typical banding. Nevertheless, it was named so because of its patterns and colors. Moss agate is considered a symbol of connection to nature and is said to strengthen this connection. It is said to inspire and help with new beginnings. At the same time, it is said to relieve pressure and stress and help resolve deep-seated fears. In this way, it can strengthen confidence and hope.

Moss agate is often called the "stone of the weather-sensitive." It is said to provide relief to people sensitive to changes in the weather. It is also said to stimulate lymph flow and relieve swollen lymph nodes. It is also said to have a positive effect on persistent infections.

Moss agate is a chalcedony (microcrystalline quartz, SiO₂) with moss-like inclusions of chlorite, hornblende, or iron oxides. It is translucent to opaque with a white or colorless matrix. Strictly speaking, it is not agate, as it does not show banding. It forms in volcanic rocks. Locations include India, Brazil, USA, Australia, and Uruguay.

Pflege & Reinigung

As a variety of chalcedony, moss agate has a Mohs hardness of 6.5–7 and is robust. Clean under running water, recharge in the sun or on rock crystal. It is easy to care for and suitable for everyday use.<br>

Verwechslungsgefahren & Qualität

Moss agate is sometimes confused with tree agate. The distinction: moss agate shows rounded, moss-like inclusions, while tree agate has branched, dendritic patterns. There are also similarities with green aventurine – however, this shows the typical aventurescent sparkle.<br>
