Meaning

According to tradition, orange calcite is said to have a developmental-accelerating effect, especially in young children and adults who no longer expect a positive turn in their lives. The wearer of this stone is said to benefit from stability, self-confidence, and steadfastness. It is also said to facilitate overcoming obstacles and thus counteract procrastination.

Alleged effect

Orange calcite, also known as bone fracture stone, is said to have supportive properties for bone and tissue disorders. Orange calcite is also often the first choice for brittle fingernails, split ends, and tooth decay. As its sunny color suggests, the stone is said to have a positive effect on the mood, thereby strengthening optimism and intuition.

Mineralogie & Entstehung

Orange calcite is an orange variety of calcite (CaCO₃). The color arises from the addition of iron oxides. It crystallizes in the trigonal system and exhibits the strong double refraction typical of calcite. Calcite dissolves in acid with effervescence (CO₂ development). Locations for orange calcite include Mexico, Peru, Brazil, and Belgium.

Pflege & Reinigung

Orange calcite has a Mohs hardness of only 3 and is very soft and scratch-sensitive. Protect it from impacts and scratches. Clean only with lukewarm water – NO acid (it will dissolve!). No saltwater. To recharge, use sunlight or rock crystal. Not suitable for gemstone water.

Verwechslungsgefahren & Qualität

Orange calcite can be confused with carnelian or orange selenite. Carnelian is significantly harder (7) and more translucent. Selenite has a fibrous structure. The simplest test: orange calcite is very soft (can be scratched with a fingernail) and reacts to acid with effervescence.
